Energy-calibration of the Atlas Hadronic and Electromagnetic Liquid-argon Endcap Calorimeters
نویسنده
چکیده
In 2002 the first combined beam test of the hadronic and electromagnetic liquidargon endcap calorimeters of the ATLAS experiment took place at the SPS test beam at CERN. A total of 15 million events from electrons, muons and pions in the energy range from 6 to 200GeV were recorded. The entire calibration chain, from digital filter weights, over calibration constants, to clustering and energy weights, as is relevant for the energy calibration of hadronic and electromagnetic showers in ATLAS was tested and applied to the beam test data. The calibration methods and first results for the combined performance of the two calorimeters are presented.

Commissioning and Performance of the ATLAS Liquid Argon Calorimeters
The ATLAS liquid argon (LAr) calorimeter system consists of an electromagnetic barrel calorimeter and two end-caps with electromagnetic, hadronic and forward calorimeters. The construction of the full calorimeter system is completed since mid-2004. The detector has been operated with LAr at nominal high voltage and fully equipped with readout electronics. Online software, monitoring tools and o...
متن کاملCharged Pion Energy Reconstruction in the ATLAS Barrel Calorimeter
The intrinsic performance of the ATLAS barrel and extended barrel calorimeters for the measurement of charged pions is presented. Pion energy scans (E = 20, 50, 200, 400 and 1000 GeV) at two pseudo-rapidity points (η = 0.3 and 1.3) and pseudorapidity scans (−0.2 < η < 1.8) with pions of constant transverse energy (ET = 20 and 50 GeV) are analysed. A simple approach, that accounts in first order...
متن کاملThe ATLAS liquid argon hadronic end-cap calorimeter: construction and selected beam test results
ATLAS has chosen for its Hadronic End-Cap Calorimeter (HEC) the copper-liquid argon sampling technique with flat plate geometry and GaAs pre-amplifiers in the argon. The contruction of the calorimeter is now approaching completion. Results of production quality checks are reported and their anticipated impact on calorimeter performance discussed. Selected results, such as linearity, electron an...
متن کاملHadron Energy Reconstruction for the ATLAS Calorimetry in the Framework of the Non-parametrical Method
This paper discusses hadron energy reconstruction for the ATLAS barrel prototype combined calorimeter (consisting of a lead-liquid argon electromagnetic part and an iron-scintillator hadronic part) in the framework of the non-parametrical method. The non-parametrical method utilizes only the known e/h ratios and the electron calibration constants and does not require the determination of any pa...
متن کاملFast shower simulation in the ATLAS calorimeter
The time to simulate pp collisions in the ATLAS detector is largely dominated by the showering of electromagnetic particles in the heavy parts of the detector, especially the electromagnetic barrel and endcap calorimeters. Two procedures have been developed to accelerate the processing time of electromagnetic particles in these regions: (1) a fast shower parameterisation and (2) a frozen shower...
